MOGA Pro Power Controller Review

MOGA Pro Power

The MOGA Pro Power gamepad is perfect for you if you an avid gamer who likes to play his or her favorite side scrolling shooter on their large screen smartphone while you are on your way to the dentist to get that root canal.  So ask yourself this – do you really like the MOGA Pro Power gamepad?  Well if your answer is “yes” but you would like to have a portable piece of hardware that can provide additional battery backup for extended gamplay, Android 2.3 and above compatibility and has real tactile controls that make you feel you are playing on your expensive home console like an XBox 1 or XBox 360 then I strongly suggest that you put down your coffee and read on….

…the nice folks over there at MOGA have heard your cries for help and they have come up with the MOGA Pro Power Controller.

MOGA Pro Power Controller

For about fifty bucks you can get your hands on the controller, a tablet stand and power booster cable (that charges your smartphone from your controller’s built in battery while in game play).  The controller itself when you take it out of the box immediately feels like a top rated game controller for one of your home video game console systems.  The button layout is similar to that of the XBOX 360 with the left analogue stick located in the top left corner and the right analogue stick on the bottom right hand side.

The D-Pad also has a durable, yet springy feel to it, giving you the true impression that it is designed for extended hours of button mashing while you are playing a good old fashioned game of Tetris on one of your emulators.  The customary A,B,X and Y buttons are all there as well located on the right hand side of the controller and they are professional looking with the characters identifying each button nicely covered by see through plastic.  It would be great if one day these buttons could be illuminated at night or when you are in a dark area!

The start button, LED charging status lights are all nicely positioned on the front of the unit as well.  The start button being a little rubber nub with enough protrusion above the surface to make it easily accessible.

One of my favorite features of this gamepad is the attached arm in the middle of the device that can open up out to an angle of roughly 45 degrees and can hold smartphones up to the large ones with a width of 3.2 inches using S.M.R.T. Lock Technology, so you owners of Samsung Megas, you are in luck!

I did mention earlier that this little gadget also comes with a built in battery designed to give your smartphone that extra juice for extended game play as well as being able to use it for regular everyday functions after playing a couple hours of video games on it.  Yes, the internal battery is a 2200 mAh one and when you hold the controller in your hand you can definitely tell that there is a battery in there.  The good news is that the device is actually not heavy in your hand, it feels very comfortable, along with the rubberized grips that are nicely contoured to your hands.

The MOGA Pro Power also comes with a separate stand designed to hold pretty much any sized tablet that you throw at it.  That being said, you can use this device to play games on your Android smartphone, Android tablet or on your 60 inch high definition TV set via an Android tablet that has TV connectivity either wirelessly or via an HDMI cable, your choice.

This controller is only compatible with Android smartphones and tablets that have an Android OS version of at least 2.3 and above.  MOGA does have other flavors of this device for the iOS (Apple) devices as well.  Below are links to get these controllers from Amazon with discounted prices (a great deal indeed!)
