Introducing the GPD Q9 Android Gaming Tablet

GPD Q9

The GPD Q9 portable game system is the perfect piece of hardware for any gamer who needs to have their Android tablet and video game system all in one device.  The GPD Q9 has a large 7 inch IPS capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.  This form factor makes it the perfect device to use as a tablet.  Reading documents and web pages on the screen is a pleasant experience as text and graphics are easy to see in various light conditions, including outdoors.  The touch screen also performs quite well to finger gestures.

The GPD Q9 comes with Android 4.4 pre-installed and has a very simple and intuitive interface which makes finding any of your favorite applications, emulators, games and media a breeze.  To be honest the actual interface reminds me of Windows 10 with its multicolored tiled icons.

The GPD Q9 has very good game controls as well.  I find that there a lot of game systems out there on the market today where heavy investments go into the processors and screen quality but oftentimes they fall behind when it comes to the quality of the controller buttons, especially the dual analogue nubs.  This is where the GPD Q9 passes with flying colours.  All of the buttons that one would normally find on a modern day game controller like the XBOX One or PlayStation 4 can all be found on the GPD Q9. On the left hand side of the screen there is the Nintendo-like D-pad, left analogue nub and dual shoulder buttons.

On the right hand side of the screen resides four action buttons nicely and clearly labelled A,B,X and Y in addition to the right shoulder buttons and “Start” and “Select” keys.

One more thing to mention about the dual “mini”joysticks or dual analogue nubs – they are rubberized which provides the perfect gripping action especially when playing those fast paced action games.  They are also very durable to.

The GPD Q9 comes with a 7 inch screen with a 1024 x 600 display which also is am IPS capacitive touch screen.  Looking at the battery source there is a built in 5000 mAh litium ion rechargeable battery.

The GPD Q9 also comes with 2GB of onboard RAM abd 16GB of NAND flash memory.  There is also an expansion slot which is capable of accommodating microSD cards for additional storage.  The main processing unit is a quad core 1.8GHz power plant and there is also an additional graphics processing unit (GPU) designed to handle resource hungry games and applications.

From a connectivity perspective, WiFi is supported (i.e. 802.11 b/g/n) but unfortunately, there is no Bluetooth support.

There is a little camera at the back that is rated at 0.3 mega pixels but there is no front facing camera.

There are also a series of physical ports like a 3.5 mm audio jack, expansion card slot for microSD cards, a USB 2.0 OTG port and an HDMI port that gives the capability to connect your GPD Q9 gaming system to a large screen TV for more enhanced game play.

The GPD Q9 also makes an excellent 7-inch tablet.  Being Android powered one can access the Google Play Store and download and use their favorite Android applications.  The capacitive touch screen responds very well to touch as well.

If you are looking for a device that is part gaming system and part tablet then the GPD Q9 would be for you.  Checkout my YouTube review videos below where I review this lovely device as well as demo a couple of my favorite games.

Now, if you would like to get you paws on one of these systems Iwould normally provide you with a direct link to GearBest or Amazon but unfortunately at the time that I wrote this blog post the system has been discontinued.  However, I do have some great news for I am about to review a more powerful 7 inch game tablet called the JXD S192 Singularity and post my thoughts on this website as well as on YouTube in the form of a video, so stay tuned.
