Apple iPad Pro

So I finally got around to purchasing the Apple iPad Pro. To be honest, I had some hesitation initially, seeing that I already had one of the older iPads (you know, the 9.7 inch version that has been around since it first launched way back in 2010 and has been through several iterations). Well anyway, to be honest I have tried some of the other large form factor tablets on other platforms like Android and Windows and each and every time I was impressed with the number of use cases that I could use these tablets for especially seeing that they all work with digital styluses and pens now.

So, I thought to myself, being a huge fan of Apple products, knowing that Apple is known for taking their time to follow the market trends, letting the other competitors rush to market with the next best form factor of a device or smartphone and then finally releasing something in that same niche and also doing very very well. Why? Because every time they launch something new the quality and user experience is top notch. So that being said I went ahead and plunked down part of my next mortgage payment on a gold iPad Pro (I hope the wife does not see this – heh heh).

It took my about a minute to get the darn box open (it was like the device was vacuum sealed within the cardboard box) but after a few extra seconds of patience I was able to open my new little treasure – and behold – the iPad Pro.

My initial impressions – this thing was indeed huge! The first thing that you see – and only thing I might add – when you open the lid is a gigantic screen surrounded by this little neat bezel and off course Apple’s signature button and fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the tablet.

Taking the Apple iPad Pro tablet out of the box I was surprised at how light it was in my hand. For a 12.9 inch tablet Apple has designed this thing to be held for long hours without experiencing any hand fatigue. All of the buttons that you are used to seeing on the previous versions of its smaller screened cousins are in the same place – volume keys, mute button and power key. As is customary with all Apple tablets and smartphones there is no memory expansion port so my two cents is that if you plan to spend this type of money on a tablet you might as well cough up a couple hundred bucks or so to get one with more memory to hold all of your applications and games.

Now, I have been a fan of space grey Apple products for many years now and thanks to the Apple iPad Pro I have been taken over to the gold side of the force. Man, this tablet looks ravishing in gold! Great work Apple.

As for the innards, this thing comes with Apple’s most powerful tablet processor yet – a dual core A9X processor designed to handle any iOS application or game thrown at it. Apple claims that you can get up to 10 hours of battery use on this thing on one charge doing normal stuff. I stress tested that statement myself and was was surprised at the fact that I got about just under 11 hours of use before having to recharge it. Quite nice – seeing that you have to consider the fact that in addition to powering the processor and other bits and pieces of the tablet, the built in battery also has to power this huge 12.9 retina display that packs 264 pixels per inch. That equates to not just a large screen, but a large screen with an impressive resolution.

Anyway, I did a number of videos on the Apple iPad Pro giving my honest opinion of its features (see below). I also did a couple of videos showing some of my personally recommended games that perform well and look gorgeous on this huge screen. Feel free to leave comments and enjoy.
