Next, you start the My Car Locator application on your device, enter the activation code, setup an online account and in a couple of minutes, after entering all of your account details as well as details about your vehicle – like vehicle type etc. – voila, you are nearly setup and ready to go. The last thing that you do is plug the dongle directly into the OBD port which is usually located under the steering wheel of your vehicle.
That’s it. you are now setup. Now the instructions would recommend that you drive your vehicle around for a while in order for the GPS to be able to pickup its location, but to be honest, when I used the application I could almost instantaneously see the location of my car within the map in the application on my smartphone, which was quite cool.
There are also a ton of other features that come with this application that actually are very useful indeed. Let’s look at some of them in a bit more detail.
Real time tracking of the vehicle’s battery – within the Carlock Real Time Tracker application there is a graph that shows the voltage level of your car battery. This is a great feature because now you can detect when your vehicle’s battery is starting to degrade at an early stage and avoid break downs when the car cannot start on a cold winter’s morning.
Monitor’s Your Driving Habits – The Carlock My Car Locator application also monitors your driving habits and even keeps a log of every trip you make. The application even goes as far as indicating when you accelerate to fast, do harsh braking and even when you make harsh turns. There is even a score that the application generates to give you an indication of your driving style.
Real Time Alarms – If your vehicle’s engine is started or if someone hits your car you get real time audible alarms on your device (you can customize the notification feature to just vibrate if you like). You will get written messages in your log indicating that “the engine has started” and “vibration detected”.
